Example #1:
Hi ____ my name is ____ . I am a resident of the Town of Wheatland in Kenosha County, WI. I would like to speak with you regarding lithium battery storage as our town recently had a proposal submitted by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Robin Energy. We are asking you to help us Defend Wheatland against a battery energy storage system (BESS).
Our town has come out strongly against having a battery storage facility installed in our community. There are several key factors that demonstrate the Town of Wheatland is the wrong location for this type of project.
These factors include the risk of fire. Being we are a rural town, we have a volunteer fire department who responds to fires. Wheatland is such a small rural community in fact, we utilize a MAMBAS system, relying on the surrounding community’s fire departments to assist when needed. Not all surrounding communities will have the skillset to respond to a Lithium battery inferno.
Wheatland is a rural community with farmland and schools very near the originally proposed site. An industrial park does not fit against this backdrop.
Our town should not be expected to support the additional cost of electricity of a battery storage facility. President Trump just announced his new Rate Payer Protection Pledge, which demands technology companies support their own electricity costs. These costs are not to be a burden passed onto the community in which the tech company operates.
I am asking that you help Defend the Town of Wheatland in Kenosha County, at the State level. We are requesting you to _________. The Town of Wheatland, WI is the wrong location for a battery storage project.
Example #2:
My name is _____. I live in Burlington, Wisconsin in Kenosha County. I'm not sure how much you may be aware of what has transpired over the past few months regarding battery storage. There was a proposal earlier this year by Robin Energy to build a battery storage facility in my small town of Wheatland Wisconsin. Our town falls under the Kenosha County battery storage ordinance, requiring an Industrial rezone of the originally proposed site. Our town's planning commission voted against the project's request to rezone the land and the Robin Energy battery storage project failed. However they submitted a rather threatening letter that they would be pursuing the project through other means. We anticipate they will bring the project through the state via the PSC.
The proposed goal of the battery storage project was to support AI data centers and cryptocurrency mining. The project was not to support green energy - aka wind and solar. However they did in fact include wording that the proposal was for green energy. This was completely misleading.
We have been working with local Republican representatives including Samantha Kerkman and Amanda Nedweski to bring awareness and demand more from our representatives at a higher level of government. Recently the PSC issued guidelines around battery storage. They however never reached out to counties for input regarding these types of projects. This is a complete overstep of the PSC. There is no justification why they did not reach out to gain an understanding of the impact of battery storage projects, especially as this one in particular does not support green energy as the current Governor would like to expand.
I am looking to you for support in our quest to stop battery storage in our small town. As I'm sure you are aware there are many downsides to a battery storage project and our small town is not an appropriate fit for such a project. Please reach out or connect me to the appropriate resource so we may work together to discuss our best path forward.
Thank you!
